Integrated Cascade Cooling Systems – MultiStage

MultiStage is an integrated cascade cooling system for processes with large temperature differences, enabling each cooling stage to operate at higher evaporation temperatures. The result is significantly lower operating costs, energy savings of up to 50%, and stable cooling even in the most demanding industrial conditions.

What is an integrated cascade cooling system?

Integrated cascade cooling systems are designed for processes with large temperature differences between return and supply water. Instead of a single cooling stage that must cover the entire temperature range, MultiStage uses multiple modular chillers connected in series, so each unit operates in its optimal range and at higher evaporation temperatures.

System architecture

A typical cascade cooling system includes:

  • two or more modular chillers (air- or water-cooled condensation) connected in series,
  • pump stations and tanks for water recirculation through chillers and process users,
  • valves and auxiliary equipment for flow and pressure control,
  • a central microprocessor control panel for full system management.

How does cascade cooling work?

Water returning from the process passes through all cooling modules connected in series. At each stage it is further cooled until it reaches the required outlet temperature, and then it is returned to the process. The central controller modulates the capacity of each unit to maintain a constant operating temperature with maximum energy efficiency.

MultiStage (MSW / MSA)

MultiStage is an integrated cascade cooling system with water- or air-cooled condensation, designed for processes with large temperature drops. It is based on modular chillers connected in series, making full use of the available temperature difference and enabling operation at higher evaporation temperatures—maximizing COP/EER.

The system can be digitally synchronized with the process line and automatically controlled, tracking real production load conditions. This ensures stable temperature control, optimized energy consumption, and high reliability of the entire cooling system.

Frigel MultiStage cascade cooling systems are a logical choice when standard chillers cannot efficiently handle large temperature differences. Combined with ECODRY adiabatic coolers, air-cooled and modular chillers, pump stations, and digital control (3PR 4.0 and MiND), it is possible to build a fully integrated, intelligent next-generation cooling system.
