At the end of June 2022, the students of the high school, Jovan Jovanović Zmaj from Novi Sad organized a humanitarian basketball tournament in which they collected funds for the treatment of their friend Mihajlo, a third grade student of the high school. The humanitarian tournament was organized as part of project classes from the optional subject Health and Sport. This kind of project teaching help students to practice organizational knowledge and skills, as well as to show a responsible relations for health and the environment.
Mihajlo suffers from a rare degenerative disease that affects only a few dozen people in the whole world. He needs treatment to prevent the disease from spreading to his heart. At this humanitarian tournament, more than 500,000 dinars were collected for further medical therapy. Neofyton company recognized and supported the initiative of the students and donated assets for this project.
The success of the project is shown though the amount of collected funds, but also though the experience and impressions of the students who organized the tournament. The team leader of project learning, Emiliju Kaćanski, says that the number of participants was over planned. She also says that the cooperation between professors and students was on the highest level, as well as achieved development of organizational skills, which is one of the main goals of project teaching.
In addition to this project, the students of Zmaj Jovina high school participated in several projects this year, of which the following stand out: Development Plan of AP Vojvodina – where students directly participated in the definition of the plan and documents for the further development of the province and Student Company – where students had the opportunity to establish their own company and make corporate and financial reports.
